Two-day Conference ""From the Archive to Research: New Perspectives on the Work of Nikos Engonopoulos"" (28–29 November 2025, Athens School of Fine Arts Library)
The preparation of the two-day conference entitled "From the Archive to Research: New Perspectives on the Work of Nikos Engonopoulos", which will take place on 28 and 29 November 2025 at the Library of the Athens School of Fine Arts, is in full swing. The conference is part of ELIDEK's research project "Nikos Engonopoulos Archive: Digitization, Management and Documentation" and aspires to be a dynamic meeting place for scientific study with contemporary cultural experience.
The conference program will include six thematic sessions with presentations by researchers, art historians, literary theorists and archivists, round tables with the participation of artists, curators and experts in cultural management, as well as a rich set of parallel actions. These activities include artistic events, screenings of audiovisual material, presentation of documents from the digitized archive, as well as a specially designed exhibition with rare archival documents that will be hosted in the library of the Athens School of Fine Arts.
The aim of the conference is to highlight the importance of the Nikos Engonopoulos Archive both as a research object and as a living cultural nucleus that lends itself to reflection, interpretation and inspiration. In addition to the presentation of the scientific work that has already been carried out, the conference will also be a field of interdisciplinary dialogue around archival politics, memory, artistic creation and modern methods of documentation.
Targeted contacts have already been made with potential speakers, artists and curators, with the aim of establishing a program that will be characterized by scientific validity, thematic diversity and artistic sensitivity. The response has been very positive, which reinforces expectations for a high-level conference, open to academia and the wider public.
The conference will be accompanied by the publication of a program and accompanying informative material, while the video recording of the sessions will also be provided for future archival exploitation and public promotion. The organization of the conference in the heart of the Athens School of Fine Arts, and specifically in the area of its library, offers a particularly symbolic and essential place of hospitality: a space of knowledge, artistic expression and cultural memory, in which the archive of Nikos Engonopoulos will be highlighted in its entirety.
