The unknown Engonopoulos
The current edition by Dr. Eleana Margariti, titled The Unknown Engonopoulos, attempts to broaden the scope of research surrounding the visual work of Nikos Engonopoulos, systematically and thoroughly utilizing the artist's personal Archive. The detailed indexing and study of the archival material—which includes latent or unpublished works, such as oil paintings, egg temperas, temperas, drawings, as well as extensive theatrical maquettes—makes it possible to reconstruct crucial aspects of his creative process. These documents not only illuminate the early and later phases of his artistic production but also allow for an understanding of the creator's temperament, which is distinguished by continuous experimentation, repetitions of thematic motifs, and frequent changes in titles.
