ASTORIA – ‘How the Fish Learned English’, an event dedicated to Nikos Engonopoulos, takes place on Tuesday, October 21, 7:30 PM, at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 25-02 Newtown Avenue in Astoria, and features a presentation by Professor Elisabeth Arseniou of Panteion University on ‘Nikos Engonopoulos and his Digital Archive’ and a staged reading of the play ‘How the Fish Learned English’ by Andreas Flourakis, directed by loanna Katsarou, translated into English by Demetri Bonaros, and performed by Demetri Bonaros and Chrysi Sylaidi, produced by Eclipses Group Theater NY.

The project ArchArt “Nikos Engonopoulos’ Archive: Digitization, Documentation and Publication” is carried out within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan Greece 2.0, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.

Admission is free.

Nikos Engonopoulos (October 21, 1907-October 31, 1985) was a Greek poet and painter, member of the ‘Generation of the 30s’, and a key figure in the surrealist movement in Greece. His works are in public and private collections including the National Gallery of Greece, Benaki Museum, Teloglion Fine Arts Foundation, and the Museum of Modern Greek Art of Rhodes, among others.
