Workshop on the Nikos Engonopoulos Archive: Digitization, Documentation and Publicization of Cultural Heritage
The Department of Communication, Media and Culture of Panteion University is organizing the conference entitled "Digital Archiving as a Means of Saving, Inspiring and Disseminating the Cultural Imprint: The Nikos Engonopoulos Archive", on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00 to 19:00, at the Sakis Karagiorgas II Amphitheater. The conference takes place in the framework of the research project 6059 ArchArt, with the funding of the H.F.R.I.. and the scientific supervision of Professor Elizabeth Arseniou.
The event is open to the public and available with remote monitoring via Teams, aims to highlight the importance of digital archiving and the management of personal files through the example of the valuable archive of Nikos Engonopoulos – one of the most important representatives of Greek surrealism. The program of the workshop, which presents the findings of Project 6059 ArchArt, It includes contributions from archivists, visual artists, philologists and students, as well as creative texts and works, illuminating both the process of transfer, classification and digitization of the archive, as well as the possibilities of its research utilization.
The archive includes manuscripts of works, correspondence, photographic material, theatrical stage drawings and personal belongings that document his poetic, artistic and teaching career. Through the implementation of the project and the transfer of the archive to the Athens School of Fine Arts, the protection, promotion and free access to this cultural reserve is pursued, which now acquires a new visibility and functions as a tool for understanding our cultural identity.
The Workshop is under the auspices of H.F.R.I. and is part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan "Greece 2.0", co-financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
